I am asking for a friend of mine. (Really!! He gave me a ride to work yesterday.)
He has a 30 year old house. About 3 years ago, he noticed cracks in the bricks (near the corner I guess) and had them tuckpointed. They have opened up again, about 1/2 inch in places.
He was crawling in the crawlspace the other day, and he noticed the concrete wall had cracks about an inch wide. I asked him specifically about the distance, and he said he could easily insert his thumb.
I have a couple of ideas based on a complete lack of information. He did say that he removed the downspout connection to the sewers a number of years ago, but he is vague as to the locations.
I only want to get involved this far: How do I help him find an inspector, and not a concrete guy, who will actually find the problem and recommend action?

You might ask the local bankers that write mortgages. They'll have a list of home inspectors and be able to recommend which ones are thorough.
