My house is on a septic system. when the temperature is right and the wind is calm my yard stinks to high heaven. its not the system itself, its coming from the vent pipe on the roof. the gas settles to the ground
I’ve thought about putting some heat tape around the upper stack to keep the draft going up.
anyone have a simple solution?

Sometime back there was a link to someone that made a charcoal filter that went on vents just for that type of problem.
I extended mine 5'. Worked.

I had the tank pumped this summer.
That could be the issue. With the cellulose layer removed from the top of the tank, more gas will back up the inlet pipe and exit thru your roof vents.
the gas was there before the tank was pumped also. I think I'll try the carbon filter
That's nice, but I didn't suggest you had a tank problem. I didn't either- mine was hardly used. I just needed more height. Think power plant, or any other polluting source.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
How recently have you pumped the tank?
Have you had your tank pumped lately? That is usally
a dead giveaway it is time to pump the ole poop tank.
Some emailed me the link to the company with the filter.

Again I don't know anything else about it.
Philosophical question - if you don't have a sewer how can you have SEWER GAS.
