I have a deck coming up 8′ x 42′ in 2×6 cedar w/ decking running the short way over 2×8 acq joists. Customer would like hidden fasteners, my supplier is suggesting Shadoe Track

which is a product I haven’t used before. Any opinions from those who have? Just to look at it I have concerns about whether the decking will actually be tight to the joists – rattling, shifting, squeaks, etc.
Then again, maybe it’s all fine.
thanks

I don't know anything about the Shadoe Track, but here's all my links about deck stuff:

I think the first one covers fasteners.
Should work, and be just as quick as any of the other bottom mount systems.
I recommend that you pass it by the AHJ first to be sure they are ok with it.
AHJ? Got me there. J
AHJ, Authority Having Jurisdiction. AKA: who ever issues building permits, and does the inspections. It is a standard abbreviation in the building codes.

if you have room to crawl under the deck those will work. i prefer biscuit shaped spacers the screw bewteeen the boards into the joists and are held in place by slots in the side of the decking. many companies make em, i think Tiger is one brand. all the work is topside, nice if is just rained...

<nice if it just rained>Ha ha. Forecast for this week includes daytime high temperatures of -18C. Ain't no rain goin' on at the moment. One benefit is that, whatever I may be while working outdoors, it probably won't be wet. I've only ever used those side-clip fasteners for composite decking. I suppose there's no reason not to do that in cedar. My understanding is that those fasteners are fairly common for ipe and other tropical hardwood decks. Call me a local yokel but I have never actually seen an ipe deck, much less built one myself - composites, cedar, and the occasional ACQ when I can't convince them otherwise. j
i hear that! 34 and rain today, 18 degrees and 20 mph winds tomorrow, not pleasant for doin windows.....
takes a a few secs longer to biscuit each board, but you save in fastening time. the biscuit style use only one screw/clip for two sides of decking so in each board you usually use two per 16oc. with biscuit style you use two for the first and last baord and one clip every board in between. of course they price them accordingly.....
the only thing i dont like is they use ss screws, which have the bending resistance of cheddar cheese if yer not careful....Dan Lynn, Dan Lynn Construction, Joliet, IL
