I have seen several different methods of installing 1″ rigid insulation with sheathing, in most cases is is shown on the exterior of the plywood or USB that is nailed to the studs. I have seen one detail by an architect showing the insulation sandwiched between the sheathing and the studs – is this a feasible method? It would provide a better nailbase for the shingles or clapboards but I wonder if it provides enough wall bracing to resist racking. Any thoughts?
Thanks!
