Looking for some ideas/photos/plans for a good shed. Need to get some stuff out of the garage so I can use it for what it was intended. Haven’t found a good website for ideas. Not looking for anything too elaborate, but something with some interest & detail. 8 x 16 or so. Any ideas?

patternmake- I see you're a first time poster to BT so welcome.
If you put some info in your profile it makes it easier to answer.
Living in a suburbia would make plans very different, as you can get told what you can do, than if you lived in, say, Maine which means you could pretty much do what you wanted where ever and when you wanted.
Few years back when needing storage I built a regular 12x16 put up on block piers to give extra space for lumber underneath. As long as you're doing it get some bang for your buck.
In hindsight, when doing the roof I would have put an overhang on the gable ends something like the pic below to help keep the water away from the building. Just for the practicality of the thing.

"than if you lived in, say, Maine which means you could pretty much do what you wanted where ever and when you wanted" ...................(sigh) if it were only still true.
So those days are gone now, too?

Thirty years or so ago when I started I can't remember permits being required for much of anything. Now Maine (or at least the Portland metro and Midcoast areas or any waterfront property) for better or worse, is highly regulated much like many other areas of the country. Got married 3 years ago and moved out to the Twin Cities and near as I can tell, it's no worse. Seems like you can't even pass gas without a passel of permits and a bunch of lawyers but you gotta get used to it- just wonder where it's all going to end.
Starting to sound like there's no place to run away.

Ain't that the turth! We may still be barefooted....... but we're regulated!
The first half of this thread dealt a lot with sheds.

First you buy a whole bunch of doors....

And then you hang out at Lowe's waiting for a deal on a pile of structural lumber...PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Then you decide... "Screw it. Building a shed doesn't pay the bills."

LMAO Forgot about that part. Good thing razzing the razzman is well-received.
It is, isn't it?
Here's my latest shed. Probably a little over-sized and over-budget for this thread. But this is the US, everybody "needs" all the storage they can get. That's why there are all those auctions at the mini-storage places when the rent didn't get paid.
Forgot to mention that it's 4 floors, drive in on 2.

Showoff. <g>
Can't wait to see your garage.

Well, if you insist. <VBG> Here's the foundation under that 2 story post&beam (dovetailed). Translucent panels went into that hole in the copper roof. And windows are always nice...
Luka, if you wanna move this thing it'll take a much larger tractor than anything I have.
DW figures we're here long-term. I've got too much crap to ever move again. Hah! Leave it behind and start over, I say. I've been to farm auctions that make my accumulation look puny. Parking might be a bit of a problem, but mine'd be a pretty good auction. Gotta get that 11000 lb sander in the building first. It's still at the bottom of the driveway, where the delivery guy had to drop it.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
How durable are those panels with all those trees around?

How durable are those panels with all those trees around?
Very good question. Same thing the roofer I borrowed the seamers from asked.
You see, I live in a house that had no damage from a big tree coming down on it. So these things don't occur to me.
Current plan is to move my venerable Alfa (that DW doesn't believe I'll ever put on the road again) and take down the 2 closest oaks. One's got a 30' branch leaning directly over the panels. About 50' of saw logs in that trunk. Then there's the one I used to try (unsuccessfully) to get the Olds "cupola" on the roof. It died. Firewood coming up. Need any? I can load you up when you come after that wood-fired boiler.
Here's the would-be cupola for anybody who missed it last time. I'm still disappointed, but it's stored here. Next building's gonna be a lot shorter. I'm learning.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Too much time on your hands or what. Oh yeah, I forgot your profile says retired ;-)The shed might be nicer than your house.

The shed might be nicer than your house.
Eye of the beholder... Took longer to build. And I have no intention of trying to heat it (shudder). Is a nice shed. Still gotta glaze the solar kiln on the back of it. And figure out who's doing the lumber sawing. I really don't want to buy a sawmill.
Actually "retired" was what my insurance agent came up with when trying to figure out my occupation. I don't work many months/yr for others. Some around here think I'm a furniture maker (my vocation), others an excavator, still others a house builder (concrete, not carpentry). Mostly, they know if it's not a small interesting project I won't do it. That's the few who even know who I am.
You've gotta have fun, right? I do. And make a little money occasionally.
Too much time on my hands? Hardly, considering the projects I already have going.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Sounds like you're where I would like to be. All the power to you. Your projects are quite interesting, keep posting pictures.
heh Everybody loves a shed. Must be a carryover from not having anything at the end of WWll. Make sure you have something sweet at the end of every meal to remind you all is well.
I want your shed. ROAR!
What would these Russwin lock/doorknob mechanisms bring on Ebay or the used...er...pre-owned marketplace?
Do these Hager hinges have ballbearings?

You'll have to arm wrestle Luka for it. Do you really need those 18 passage doors I have stored on the bottom floor? Pretty sure they're all 3/4 hr fire rated. Like our 36x84 bathroom door in the pic.

That a knob or lever handle? Levers I'll take, if they're brushed chrome. Trade for a translucent panel or two? Knobs much less popular. I've got a bunch from the first pile of doors I bought, replaced with ebay levers. Need any commercial door closers? Got a pile of them too.
Some doors came with ballbearing hinges. Ballbearings are the extra 2 small cylinders on the pin in the pic. BTW, that's a birch door, straight from the auction pile, no finish touch-up. Trim is hickory, harvested here. Pretty good match, eh? PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
dang man, don't know how I missed posting the pic.
be getting concerned now
'Nemo me impune lacesset'No one will provoke me with impunity
Pic helps. Senior moment there? (Get used to it.)
Mortise with knob? Good luck with any takers. But the hinge, you're in luck. Those two small rings are what you're looking for. Were those fire rated doors?
Don't know what mine are filled with but they're incredibly heavy, good time for ballbearing hinges. I found enough new ones on ebay for the next house, I think. Lemme recount. You have a bunch extra?
If there's a number stamped on the hinge you probably oughta track down the load rating. That looks like the (relatively) cheap variety, but I've been wrong before. I have mostly Stanleys, 4.5". Most of theirs have 4 of those bb rings, probably a little stronger.

It took me a while to remember that myself.=0)How much to drag that shed to my place ? That looks about the same slope as some of my property.Be, gotta do something better with what I already have, before I go drooling over something more.....

Check out the books on this website and look for Build Like a Pro: Building a Shed by Joseph Truini .........excellent book imho. Iirc there's four designs in the book; the book takes you through the whole process ............ think you'd find it helpful. http://www.taunton.com/store/pages/070684_intpg.asp
Do not recall who originally posted the 'motor home', but the attachment is a neat shed idea<G>.

Simpson ties makes a shed with plans. The ties come in a kit with the directions to build it. Nothing special or fancy but it is a good shed. The basic kit with theplans and ties only is around 50 bucks. You may need 2 kits for the size you mentioned.
