I live in Tallahassee, Fl. We are having a severe sheetrock shortage. Is this happening everywhere? Any thoughts on why? I will have to wait at least 6-8 weeks for 260 boards. Glad it is a contract house and not a spec. Still is a pain.

Here in the Phoenix, AZ area I have heard of drywall subs traveling from Home Depot to Home Depot buying the max. allowed till they fill their order. Then there are the big companies who have been limited to a certain number of train car loads, so you are not alone. I have not found out why for the shortage but suspect it is somewhere in the manufacturing end or the supply of the raw materials.
*yep! In new york city. We have to get in Canada
*Here in middle Georgia,we`ve been hit with the sheetrock virus also.I just checked the US Gypsum home page and they`re bragging about their record earnings for the quarter. I left a message for any concerned party, that their earnings are up and the folks who are forced to contend with this"shortage" are going down the tubes.Who`s in charge of this? How did we get to be dependent on paper covered dirt?

My building materials supplier told me that it's a basic supply/demand issue. He also told me that a few new drywall manufacturing facilities are supposed to "come on line" here in the south east US, sometime this year which should
provide some relief.
I wonder if it might be a deal like with the recent gasoline price hikes?? They limit the supply so the prices will go up??

I Rep for a regional drywall manufacturer. I can assure everyone supply is not being limited. Everyone is running full go getting product to market. The reason the price goes up is because the consumer is willing to pay it, Ten years ago they were giving it away.

2 yrs ago i was told to buy stock in us gypsum at under 15 dollar a share......i didnt listen.......oh well.........dont care to know what it is now....our local suppliers have limited us too....maybe we will go back to paneling houses now instead of sheetrock......more money in my pocket instead of the "rock hangers".....
