I’m currently working on a masterbath remodel and I’m ready to install the shower base (Jacuzzi) with a Kohler (K-9132) shower drain. When I dry fit the drain flange to the base it does not want to completely seat into the recess of the shower base. The instructions call for laying down a bead of silicon under the flange. When I tried that, using a 1/2″ bead of silicon, it still did not want seat and when tightened it would end up being a little skewed. I removed and cleaned up the fittings and base.
I’m a little concerned that if the flange is not completely seated that it will adventually leak.
Jacuzzi supplies an Oatey PVC drain/flange that is considerably smaller in diameter. It fits correctly but does not match the rest of the fixtures.
Is the fit of the flange in the recess critical? I’m assuming that I need it to completely seat into the shower recess.
Thanks for your advice,
Mike

The flange should fit in the recess to drain the most water. If not then some of the water from taking a shower will be left behind. Can you get a Jacuzzi fitting to fit in the same color as the pan? The silicon is just to fill any very small gaps. The dry fit should seat fully without force.
Yeah, if the flange is proud of the floor then it won't drain, good seal or not.
Thanks for everyone's feedback. I ended up using a brass Oatey drain fitting. It sits completely in the recess. I installed the shower base and drain last weekend and tested it with about 15 gallons of water several times. No leaks so far! Now its on to drywalling and tiling.
Thanks again, Mike
