i need a shower pan for a new bathroom pan size 60″ wide 36″ deep. The walls are on 3 1/2 sides . Question – an acrylic base is approx $600 and the fiberglass base is
approx $220. What are the differences & is it worth the price difference? Also what is the proper way to install the pan? thanks in advance.
has anyone heard/used Dreamline shower pans any good?

Go Acrylic, has a better factory finish won't stain & look like hell in a few years, Have the pan set in structo lite, or any light weight concrete mix to give it a solid base.
Good Luck
How about acrylic compared to Swanstone?Glenn
no experience w/ Swanstone bases, they look good, have had good results w/ their vanity tops
Go with Swanstone, but I feel you'll only get it 32 wide (deep). Acrylic to me just looks CHEAP. Chip the surface and your in deep do do.
"Chip the surface and your in deep do do."And what happens if you chip the surface of an acrylic, as it is uniform material?.

Are we talking acrylic as in GlacierBay's HD product?
I have no idea of what that is.But all of the acrylics that I have seen are monolith molded materials.Where as FG are a gel coat over FG & resin. And those can wear to show the base material and also chip..

There is an excellent chance, I'm confused on the materials. In either case alot of the "materials" are just too shiny for my taste, it is plastic and looks it. Swanstone's products you can cut, drill, sand and it still has pretty much the same finish. I feel the quality is good enough for the pan to go with tile work.
My only experience working with acrylic types was a sink top that was "captured" on both sides by walls. It had to be belt sanded in to fit and even with a belt sander the material still chipped. Refused to use it ever since.
Bob, I just priced a Kohler base to replace a tub. It was 30 X60 and was also available in 33 X 60. Both are in cast iron which will stand up alot better. The quote was $467 and would be shipped to the store in three days. Weight is 193 LBS. You can find in on the web at Koehler.com.
