Decided/had to redo the shower last weekend. The conditions were perfect. Wife was leaving town for the week, and the tile wall fell in from water getting behind it. It’s been neglected for a long time. And against my insistance the wife declared that duct tape was not a long term fix. It did work for a couple of days though! My considerations? I had to keep the rest of the small bath working. And I had to get it completed ASAP. I could only take showers at the Gym for so long and Alexis could only impose on freinds for so long. I don’t know how to do comments next to the pictures. Plumber Bob did all the plumbing. I was figureing the plumbing was going to be a piece of cake since the old fixtures were only a few years old and in good shape. But nope. Wifey wanted new ones. So of course they don’t have anything like what I had. And it just started to make sense to redo the mixer valve or whatever that expensive doohikey was. It all turned out good in the end. Took four days total with Sunday being the worst. Still not bad considering I started at noon with nothing and had the tub in and drywall up by about 7ish. Of course we took the tub in and out about three dozen times trying to get it fit in just right. I could have done this job in three days with no problem if I wanted to. I totaly rebuilt the wall and floor. Except the joists which were in great shape for some reason. And I insulated the heck out of everything. I didn’t take the drywall out to the ceiling because I didn’t want to mess with tying it back into the ceiling. I realise now that it wouldn’t have been a big deal. This is also phase one. The next phase I’m going to do the rest. I’ll wait until the Spring when the wife is on vacation and our home improvement war chest is built back up. Next time I will do it when I have the whole week off. And I will move into a motel while I’m doing it. This is our only bathroom and with three adults using it. You just can’t accomodate everyone. So here we go.

Thanks fer the pics.
I thought the duct tape was adequate. It had a nice down home redneck feel to it.
Although the workmanship was a little lacking. The duct tape should have been applied a little straighter...
It was an emergency patch. Thursday morning 5:30 A.M. Deal. I would have snapped a chalk line but I was naked and didn't want to sprint to the garage to get one.
One thing I forgot to comment on. I covered the window because I hated it. The black foam board that I used makes it appear to be normal from the outside. No one looking in will ever be the wiser.
The pictures weren't taken as a documentry they were just snapped as I went along. That so when the wife gets home and starts asking questions I can show her photgraphic proof. And I was also emailing her progress shots along the way.
This room went from being one of the coldest in the house to the warmest and coziest.
Don't lie. She won't come
Don't lie. She won't come home until you show her the job is finished. And I'll bet she's getting reports from Alexis too.
You know how this house works all too well.
Thanks for the post Gunner! It's always nice to watch someone else do all the work while I can sit idly in front of my computer!
Although If it had been my project, I think Mrs. Mark may have been a bit miffed that the pooch got to try out the new shower before she did..
;-)
The dog wasn't very thrilled
The dog wasn't very thrilled with getting in there I'll tell you that.
Is that Plumber Bob in the shower?

I'm feeling totally
Gunner
I'm feeling totally alien, discombobulated and disoriented in this toddler pedestrian incarnation of beloved Breaktime
but didn't you have some thousand strong response thread to your trials & tribs of having a new house built??
help me get my bearings & cheers for brothers working together but I'd be checking for golf balls in the commode wasteline
We ended up taking a walk on the new house John.
Golf balls huh? I wouldn't put it past him. I'm scared to look over at his side of the county anymore with his super stove experiments. Might get a flash burn.
You know he used to be semi infamous for holding up the county 4th of July fireworks display one year while he put on his own light show a mile or so away. Didn't even know he had stopped the show. He was just out in his yard puttering around with mirrors and lights. Never a dull moment with that one.
