Need suggestions for mounting “S” type shutter dogs for wood shutters. These are for Hurricane shutters. Is mounting suggested at the bottom or on the side (center)?

Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming

My recollection is that the shutter dogs were traditionally placed at the bottom, toward the outer corner.
A side location seems likely to hold better, but the bottom position is a lot easier to reach from inside: Just lift the sash a bit and reach over.
