I just bought a place that has on corn crib on it. It sits on a concrete slab. At one point, someone added a hog buildings to the north and south sides of the corn crib, insulated it, put dry wall on the inside and put in a furnace. They then ran a wood working/distribution business out of the place for a while. After they moved the business to town, the roof started leaking. They ripped the roof off of the thing and had a metal roof put on the main part of the building and the north add-on. The south add-on must have been OK at the time. The barn had vertical barn board on it, which was covered by some manufactured siding (masonite?) of some site.
Flash to today. The buildings are structurally sound, but there is a lot of mold on the dry wall near the floor, and much of the insulation was ruined by water before the roof was put on. I’m mostly wondering how I should side the thing, and keep water from getting the worst of the place again. While most of the water has come from above before the reproof, I’m also concerned with keeping water coming through the wall at the slab, since this may be a problem if not properly taken care of.
Any and all advice appreciated.

What about Hardiplank or Hardihome? Anyway, what's the difference between the two?

Andrew,
Sounds like an acceptable place for vinyl siding. Remove the Masonite, examine and repair any bad sheathing, possibly insulate, 3/4" Dow board, and then the real thing, vinyl.
This might get the ball rolling.
