Looking for some advice on siding…I’m planning the remodel of my house and can’t decide what type of siding to go with. The house is in New York. I would ultimately like the look of cedar shakes but cannot afford to do so..My choices are either the Cedar-Valley panel or the fiber-cement shingle panel (as manufactured by James Hardie)..I would prefer the natural cedar look but if need be, we (the wife and I) can live with a painted shake…
My questions are have any of you had experience with either of these products? How do they weather? Any call-backs? Do they look like panels after a while..meaning do the joints open up?
Thanks for the input…
Mike

I'm an olde cedar guy and I don't personally care for the look of fake panels, but for quality, it is going to be hard to beat the fibrecement if you haver somebody who knows how to apply it properly.
