Is anybody familar with the H1 hurricane straps. I think I installed them backwards, had to because of my blocking. Also it calls for 6, 6-8 p nails but the holes are across from each other, it will go in one and out the other. By using six its going to take alot of wood with them. what do ya do? Is the code police going to bust me on this, know any good lawyers.

johnny.. fill every hole... they make 1.5 " hanger nails just for that..in 8d and 10d..
you can buy them by the lb. or by the 50 Lb. box
.. i forget whch one the H1 is but USUALLY... if you CAN install it backwards , it's ok...but, go to the simpson site online and look it up...
*According to Simpson,> H1 can be installed with flanges facing outwards (reverse of drawing number 1). When installed inside a wall, a birdsmouth cut is required. View Image
*Not familiar with the H1, but the ones I used nail only into the top plate. I used 3 nails in the plate and 3 in the truss. Mine went on the inside, and to keep the drywall from being held out, I mortised them into the plate with a chisel. (OK, that's a bit obsessive-compulsive.)Something to think about (if these nail only into the top plate): your roof will only be as secure as the nailing of the top plates (to each other). I added a pair of 10d nails at each truss, one on either side, angled toward each other.
*Johnny, I'm not sure, but I think that with the H1, H2, H3, etc. the number refers to the length of each leg. Can you get H-ties with longer legs, so you can offset the nails more easily?
