I want to create the look for old barn board out of new lumber, any suggestions as to a formula for stain or other products to bring this about. I want to use rough sawn cedar to “get the look” .

Sandblast it.
Cabot makes a weathering gray stain. Try that on it.
Is old barn board worth much? Is it worth any where close to the price of new steel siding to replace it? OTH, the country side is full of old falling down barns about these parts.
Old Farm board is a HOT commodity. I believe most folks use it on their interiors.
I wish I had a trailer and the time to scour the plains for old barns so I could harvest that stuff.-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

LoL! I used to do just that, back in the 80s when that was the hip California interior finish.
Occasionally confused Farmer Bob when we said we'd give $120 to pull down his old barn. "Well, I don't reckon, I can get $120 today, boys." No, no, we're paying you. He shakes his head, "dumb city boys."
We had a good "recipe" which used a mix of used crankcase (preferably tractor) oil, used air cleaner oil and dairy manure in a visqueen lined trench--but that would not be environmentaly sensitive nowadays . . . And we never sold it as "real"--didn't stop the designers from buying it at the real price (out turn to shake our heads at the city-slickers . . . )
It does help to be young, dumb, and immortal, in your twenties, when you are pulling down barns that have gone past 15º in about every direction, too . . . Occupational hazard of my occupation not being around (sorry Bubba)
Well what would you think it was worth a linear foot delivered, nice wide aged oak barn wood?Big Macs - 99 cents
If you leave rough lumber out in the elements it will silver fairly quickly. Faster at altitude. too.

Get your hands on some creosote.
If you want to oxidize it potassium promagnate... crystals sold for water purification machines... you can even get it in Sears. Dissolve in water 'paint' on outside. Then you should probably put a sealer on...no weather protection.
