I am a remodeler and have run into situations where I have skim coated plaster walls that have been poorly textured or have some damaged spots
with drywall compound.
I don’t deal with plaster and there are very few in my area who do. In my own home and on a couple of remodels I have skim coated over the plaster with drywall compound with great results. My question, is it ok
to be doing this, does anyone else do this, and am I wrong to do this?
Will this method fail?

Its the way its done . The material of choice is a biggy. Most use durabond90 , if you dont do that use regular joint compound for skimming . Always use durabond on it when taping as its a harder compond . Dont use lite weight mud . You be fine .

mike.its so out of character for you.you must be whiting out....lol
I use Durobond on skim jobs....the 90 minute gives good working time. I beleive its a harder finish yet easy to sand.

So I could smooth an entire ceiling that is presently skip troweled with Durabond? Would this produce a result similar to, but less expensive than throwing blueboard over the existing ceiling? Thanks.
Thats right . YW.
