In our recently purchased home there is a problem with the skylights. I know, big surprise. We need to rip out the old ones and replace, so I’m looking for suggestions. This is a fairly low slope roof (about 4 or 5 in 12, by eyeball), asphalt shingle. We used velux on our other house and were really happy with it, but a roofer that looked at the job (and has yet to get back to me with a bid) said he wasn’t a fan of velux. Now that I’m doubting myself, I’d like an idea of what you use?
We are probably going to be installing this ourselves, so it needs to have a proper flashing kit available, I’m not bending flashing on site. That’s one of the reasons I liked the velux – the step flashing adapts to any window.
Thanks for suggestions!

Is what I used on my own house, no problems in 21 yrs.
They are what I've used on additions and alterations I've done over the past 30 yrs. Never a call back (tho with house sales this could be just the luck of the draw) on any of them.
I've seen other brands roof gooped and still leaking.
This fall I have to replace another brand for a condo owner ('98) that has a no find leak that has appeared and reoccured over the past two yrs.
I'm using a velux.
4/12 no problem, less than that you should look at their low slope roof application which I think still does come in a kit form. It raises the skylight up on a trianglular affair. It's been a while-we may have set the kit on top of a curb...............check Velux's website and scale your roof slope more accurately.
been using Velux for decades and occasionally a SL a customer purchaced themselves.
Velux to me is the best made.
On my own houses I make my own. I'll probably be making a half dozen for the one I'm in now in a few months.
I had six I made in a house I lived in for over 15 years and they never leaked.
Outside of that..VELUX
Hmmmm, I posted a thank you last week but it never showed up. Thanks for the verification on the velux, I appreciate it.
Not sure if you work in suffolk county, but if you know good people for decks or roofs I'd love their names. I really liked your sparky recommend when we first moved here. We have a second storey deck that we need to replace, and my husband's back has been bothering him all week so I think we'll also have to hire the skylights - I can't lift them by myself.
I love velux roof lights, quick to install, simple to operate and very few problems, in fact the only problems I have seen is when they are fitted badly and that is down to poor workmanship rather than the product.
I am about to start a full gut and rebuild of my place and i will be fitting at least 5 in my roof.
Go with the velux.
