I plan on replacing a french door with a sliding door and read the artcle from FHB #? (left the issue at work so don’t have the number handy), Installing sliding doors. In the artical the author makes a drain pan with a product called “moistop” from Fortfiber Building Systems Group. I am considering making a drain pan using aluminum flashing, has anyone else done this and does anyone see any problems with using flashing for this type of application? Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

If it's in a location the gets heavy exposeure to rain you might consider lead, real easy to work with and long lasting. If it is in a location that just gets occasional direct rain Grace 'Vycor Plus' is nice to use. My concern with Al flashing would be it would be too easy to pierce or damage during instulation.
Thanks for the advice. I couldn't locate any of the Jamsill product that was in stock, and decided to go with the Grace flashing, and customize it to fit. I may decide to use lead as well, but still have a day to consider. Need to get this done this weekend since its going to be close to 70 degrees here in MA and it will probably be my last chance for warm weather until spring.
Thanks again,
I've been using Jamsill Guard pan flashings for what your describing. Here in raleigh, I get them from Stock building supply. Wherever your at, just have to call around and hopefully you can find them.
I think they are a great product.
