I’ve go a couple of closet openings (38″ r/o). Instead of one door 36″, I was gonna get two 18″ door slabs and make my own jambs, stops, route the hinges, etc. Make sorta “French” closet doors. Then I looked at prehungs and I’m considering taking a LH and a RH prehung, remove the knob-side jambs and put them together. Is it that simple or am I missing something?
TIA,
Phil

Phil, although you could do that and hang them yourself, you should be able to get a 36" double door unit prehung. We just installed two sets of them last week. They cost us about $225 for two solid wood 18" three panel doors prehung in a 36" opening jamb. I got them from my door and window distributor. The only drawback to this is that factory doors being as cheap as they are now, it takes some fooling with to get them to have even reveals all the way around.
*I guess I am missing something. How did you make them "slide"instead of "open" without making your own jambs?
*b WBA At Your ServiceBrad, Phil wanted advice on hinging the doors as "French" syle doors, not making them "bypass" style sliding doors.
