Anyone have a good source for custom storm/screen door makers (double pane and metal)? I’m trying to find one to fit an opening of 23.75″ x 76″. I like the Anderson HV 2500 or HD 3000 series that are found at Home Depot. Anderson makes custom but not as small as I’m looking for.
Thanks!

Wow...that is a narrow opening!
I would suspect that by the time the mfg. deducts the normal width of the two side stiles and the frame that the glass/screen size will be less than 12" in width.
In my experience the only folks that may get close to this would be an aluminum storm window & door manufacturer.
And with those dimensions I would not expect to see double pane glass or even tempered glass, but the result will probably be plexiglass.
Find a "mom & pop" yard in Boulder, (if one still exists!) and ask aout it! Preferable the oldest looking guy around.......experience and memory will help.
After that consider building your own...check out this months FHB for "sandwich doors" and down size the layer thickness. Pick up the IG glass and screen rail from a local glass shop. Make an "old style" combination storm/screen door!

Thanks for the tips. I'm hoping to avoid building it up myself but realize that this is nowhere near a standard size. Hopefully someone out there makes high quality custom doors at this size. It'll probably end up costing three times that of a regular size door!Seth"Nothing is a

If you don't want to make it, take a look in the phone book for Phil Clark, lived in Lafayette, but had a Boulder shop. Should have a yellow pages ad. Work was crisp, not overpriced. I doubt he'd turn up his nose, assuming he's still in the area.
Then when you pay him, tell him I'm still waiting for him to pay me for that job on Fillmore in Denver. And that he really missed out on that Martina-Aspen deal I offered him.
Surely there are still a lot of small shops in the area that could easily accomodate you. Custom is always more. Small shop will normally be cheaper.
But if you're a furniture maker, what's the problem? Shapers are nice, but not required.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
Thanks for the contact!Indeed, the only thing standing between me and all the projects I'd rather build myself is time (and family and job and vacations and excercise and...)! Got to pick and choose which to do myself and which to let go of. I usually pick the more fun ones (and ones that would come at an awesome premium to buy). Then again, if it takes longer to find someone to do it than it takes to do it myself, well then...but that's why I asked.Seth"Nothing is a

I was looking into this a couple of months back, for some reason. I found probably a dozen custom steel storm manufacturers around the country. Try looking for the name "Rusco", among others.
Whoops. Didn't get the "metal" part. Phil's a woodworker. But I'd bet he'll know where you could get a steel one fabricated. It'll help you immensely to get tuned in to the local artisan community. I'm way out of date there.PAHS Designer/Builder- Bury it!
