I’ve been scratching my head about this idea. I need to span about 16 feet, from a second floor roof/deck to the ground running uphill behind the house. I’d like to build a suspension bridge because (1): its less massive, and will let more light into the first floor windows (2): Its easy to build a sexy curve into it (3): my client loves the idea
I was thinking of anchoring the main cables to the house on one end, and to footings on the other. A pair of posts would be at mid span. (In my situation, it just looks better to hang the bridge from two posts in the middle rather than two on either end) Here’s my problem: I’m unfamiliar with working with cable. I don’t trust the fittings I saw at the hardware store, which were, well, I don’t know what you call them…but they wouldn’t work for attaching cable at a right angle to another cable. Anyone have any ideas? Of course, this thing also needs to be safe…don’t know how to build the railing yet either.
How would you do it?
