enforced by the general building inpsector in these parts
don't have an building department, but ...
I don't have a buildign departmetn and no buildign inspectors, but I am required to have state electrical, plumbing and HVAc inspections. So I was not sure who if anyone would be interested in the installation of smoke detectors.
It seems to me that in many place you are required to have alarms in every bedroom, maybe two in teh hallways, top of stairs, laudry room and on and on and on. Don't get me wrong I want detectors, but not sure all that is necessary and if in my case I won't ahve an inspection for it, I might relax a bit.
Your state electrical inspector....
...will most likely look at the smoke alarms. Be aware that they are required to be wired together, so that if one goes off they all go off.
Yeah, my impression is that the electrical inspector does it in most jurisdictions. Makes sense, since the units will be installed by the electrician, and the electrical inspector will be there for the final anyway.
IRC?
IRC R314 addresses location (number and placement) of the smokes.
NEC has references as to how they get wired; 200.12b, 300.3b, etc.
Our inspectors check them during electrical, some check them again during final.
I thought electrical
Thanks everyone.
I thought it made sense to be electrical since they are all hardwired now. So I guess I need one in every bedrrom, hall, top of stairs ....... A bit crazy if you ask me, but hey codes exist to keep smoke alarm companies in business.
