My current project has me spray painting enamel on some sheets of MDF. I put down primer first and after the first coat of enamel things look pretty good. I figure a light re-coat will make things perfect and I’m wondering if I need to take some 400 grit sand paper to the existing coat prior to this final coat. I really didn’t have any problems with dust as there are just a few areas, that at the right angle, reveal a bit of a matte finish. What should I do?
Thanks,
Ryan

Sounds like ya need to spray wetter from where I sit..hows the humidity? Temp? Add a flow out product? Right air cap? Nozzle?
could be a lot problems or just one.
I'm actually using cans of spray paint (enamel), so I'm stuck with the nozzle on the can. Otherwise the environment has been perfect for painting, low 90's with not to much humidity, thank you Northern California. I was actually kind of surprised with how well the first coat went on. Pretty consistent and no runs at all. I have a pressure pot/ Asturo gun that I use to paint kitchen cabinets but I didn't think this job warranted the set up. I think one more light coat will make things perfect, I just don't know if I need to sand before spraying. Like I said before, there isn't any dust on the last coat so I'm not trying to cover anything up.

Spray wetter is all I can come up with with seeing it. I don't see why ya can't sand it, wet sand with 600, let dry and lay on another coat.
I guess I'll just let it dry for 48 hours and do one more quick pass. That should give me a perfect top coat. If I wanted to put a clear protective coat over the whole thing is there a product I can use. I don't know if poly will work over enamel spray paint. Thanks for your help.

Poly will have a yellow tint. You want Clear lacquer or acrylic. Less yellow, but not water clear.
I've used Target products with good success in the past. Their Oxford 9000 superclear is pretty good stuff. Maybe I'll try this.

Yeowza! at almost 25.00 a QT, it better be good..LOL
Have at it, whatcha painting anyway?
My son is turning two in a little less than a month. I'm building his big boy bed. He is in love with tractors (I don't know how this happened) and so he is getting a tractor bed. I'm building something similar to this bed: http://www.ababy.com/data/children-beds/children-beds-6137.html For $2400 I told my wife all I would need to spend on tools was $1000 to complete this project. I can't wait to see my sons eyes when this moves into his room. I'm hoping for a seamless transition from crib to bed.

Cool, way to go dadd-i-o..have fun!
I don't know what you oughta do, but I'm 100% certain you don't want to sand it.
Thin the paint or add some Flo, but no sanding.

Ignore the thin or add advice, I see you have no options but to squirt on.
