I am planning on installing a wood stove in my living room. To place it in a corner I must put non-combustible material on the floor and wall. I have two hot water baseboard heaters that are in the way of the hearth. I would like to shorten them. I need to cut approx. 6 inches off of one and 8 inch’s off the other one. How would I reconnect them? I have soldered cooper pipe before by putting a ¾ inch coupler on the pipes, but in this case the fins are in the way. Can the fins be removed or is there a coupler that will slide inside the pipe? I hope I do not have to replace the both heaters.
Thank you in advance for your input.

Use snips to cut the fins off the tube , cut the pipe, and solder away
So the fins are on with just a friction fit. They are not attached by any soldering method or crimped on in any way?
You will probably want to remove the fins a few inches back from where you cut the pipe to give yourself some wiggle room when you slide on the coupling and solder the joint.Refilling the zone and purging air from the system is the PITA part.
you got it !
Thanks everyone
The fins will just slide off of the end of the copper tubing in the radiator. Cut tubing to fit. Wear gloves....the fins are as sharp as razor blades.
Solder with regular copper fittings.
You may have to reposition the fin tube support in the radiator. Make sure the support bracket is properly positioned.
