I don’t have anything personally against ants, but when they form an eightlane super highway into my kitchen and start treating my hamburger or whatever I leave out as a FEMA largess, I had to put my foot down. So I had a spray bottle of Zep citrus cleaner right there on the window sill and I gave their interstate a blast.
Stopped them dead in their tracks like the turkey shoot on the rout from Kuwait after the 1991 war. In the interest of scientific veracity, I have left them there for at least two years. The carcasses are still there and, furthermore, no other trail has dared venture along this particular path since then.
The Zep citrus cleaner is from Home Depot but probably any citrus cleaner should work as well. I hope this tip may be useful to anyone with excessive any problems and would appreciate any reports of success or not of results.

ants will not cross talicum powder
Crest toothpaste and water mixed to a sprayable solution works too.

spread 5 lbs of sugar outside near the "interstate", they fed there and stay outside.

You remind me of the person who had a stray cat outside their house, so she feed it some crab meat to get it to go away. Can you say "new pet"?
What can I say, it was a last ditch effort.

A mild solution of any liquid soap and water, sprayed on, will also work. Check it out here http://rv.eximie.net/advocate/stuff/antspray.html
