Yes, I have some thoughts for you.
I have a tool that's capable of reproducing...
And lath is not a tool.

we're a couple of nice guys tonight aren't we?
Listen, judging by the way I feel, and the way you look, I'd say neither one of us is very nice tonight! (been working in 110 plus weather!)View Image bakersfieldremodel.com
How come you didn't get picked to have a star?
I'd be pouting...you're the man here!
How come you didn't get picked to have a star?
I'd think it's pretty obvious why I didn't get asked, and I certainly wouldn't have accepted if I had been asked. I'm not impartial enough and I know it.
I don't have much knowledge of Greg Gibson, but other wise I think the choices were good - and Greg may be a great choice as well. I just haven't interacted with him any.
All of the new mods with the exception of maybe Shep were here when I arrived.
I see this all as a step in the right direction. Hope it works.

Your lack of an "e" on the end turns a tool into something that serves as a base for plaster. Everyone's a critic!
Balances out some of the guys who post problems with lathe and plaster walls.:)BruceT

yes, that what they claim but I have never tried it
The statement is more like the lathE is the only power tool where you can take a piece of wood from rough to finish.
You can put a piece of wood on the lathe, turn it, sand it, and apply the finish all while its still on the machine.
No, actually a metal lathe can reproduce itself. It's able to make all its needed parts. It's true.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

But that's not the only tool that can reproduce itself.

That is a beautiful thing.
How can a lathe make a motor?
Welcome to the Taunton University of Knowledge FHB Campus at Breaktime. where ... Excellence is its own reward!
Roy Underhill doesn't think you need a motor.
The adage is from prior to ele. as I heard it.
Waterwheel, great wheel ( up in the rafters , turned by a stick in the hands of an apprentice) or foot treadle. They had lathes in ancient Egypt.
Chair bodger in Merry Ol Eng. used spring pole lathes, using a bough of a tree as the storage for the energy that a human supplied.
Motors are over rated (G)Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Oh, I'm pretty sure the shafts and windings on some motors involve a lathe.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

That is mostly true ,metal lathes though not a wood lathe. A machinist could make every part on a metal lathe to make another lathe if he wanted to.

Just mention a tool around here and everyone turns on you ....
But how did they make the first lathe to make all the lathes after that?
We know you left the 'e' off lathe (ignore these guys, they're just bored).................
.......duplicating itself? ;0)
You have to be careful how you word things around these parts....could get you in trouble with all the hidden meanings and the hidden meanies, I mean personal mods. They're kinda like cops....never there when you need one and all hanging out at the donut shop at the same time. (I meant that in a nice way, heehee)
There are attachments one can buy to duplicate identical parts with a lathe. Also, there are the new laser engravers and duplicators that individuals can buy for small business and even a personal shop. All it takes are some $.
Practice would be a good and less expensive way. I have not yet gained enough experience to even come close. Though it is enjoyable to mess with the lathe.
