sound insulation for ABS drain pipes
hi – i am putting a rental unit in the daylight basement of my house. There are ABS drain pipes in the ceiling and walls. Are there any ways to soundproof these prior to closing the walls? My main concern is 4″ toilet drain pipe from the bathroom above that goes for about 8 feet between the floor joists and then down along the exterior wall.
Any suggestions?

Hi Darek,
I have the exact same problem with noise in the 4" ABS drain pipe, the thing is loud!! I decided to wrap the ABS pipe with Roxul Safe n' Sound insulation and then wrap it with black construction grade garbage bags, taping the seems. Thing works like a charm, can hardly hear any water when toilet is flushed upstairs.
Good Luck!!

If you really want quiet, then change the pipe at least the part in the basement to cast iron
Look ma, no jigs!!!
