I will be having a workshop built for hobby woodworking with the approx size of 20’x30′. It will be a shell/foundation with sliding barn doors and with basic utilities. My question has to do with sound-proofing. Although it will be located in a development with 5 acre+ lots, (mine is 5)I am trying to be a good neighbor by dampening the noise associated with power equipment. My plan was to insulate and drywall, with foam panels inside as soundproofing. Or is that redundant? What additional things are done to dampen sound? Any suggestions will be appreciated. This won’t happen for 10-12 months so I have some time to plan it right. thanks.

5 acre lot - probably no need to worry unless you are right up on the property line and so is someone else.
Other than that, check out ICF buildings.
Other than that, split stud walls, rigid foam on outside double 5/8" drywall on teh inside. There is even a channel that you can put on the stud before the drywall that helps tremendously with sound transmission.
MERC.
Bill,
I think insulation and drywall should be plenty. Are you planning on being out there running a router at 2-AM? How far from your property line are you. I you are not running machines at unreasonable hours, just live and let live.
Peace
You'll actually loose a lot of sound through the doors, so they should be insulated and weatherstripped if you want to block sound.
Here's a good discussion on sound abatement. http://www.usg.com/Design_Solutions/2_3_4_acoustictips.asp
Roxul insulation is good for noise reduction. It's flame rsistant to high temps and installs easy, just like regular insulation......Marjam carries it. Also can try sound board. It's like a 1/2 in. or 3/4 piece of Styrofoam but not so porous. This is applied on the studs but under the sheetrock.....The two layers of 5/8 sheetrock may work but sounds very pricey.
A good friend will come and bail you out of jail...BUT, a true friend will be sitting next to you saying "Damn...that was fun"!
