I’m building new wooden storm sashes for double hung windows in my old home. I’m in a historic district, so I can’t change the basic look. Rather than glazing the glass permanently with putty from the outside, I want to use removable glass and screen interchangeable panels mounted in a rabbet on the inside. I got price quotes from several local glass houses for the panels, but they are just too expensive for my budget. I already have the glass from the old storms but what I’m lacking is aluminum extrusions to mount it in. I’ve looked online, can find sources for vinyl glazing, but not the extrusions, at least not in the quantities I need (20 panels, each roughly 2ft x 2 ft). There are overseas manufacturers who would love to sell me lots of 1000 pieces or more, but nothing I can see for the little guy. I’m hoping a BT’er can give me a source for smaller quantities of aluminum u-shaped extrusion and the corner keys to hold the frames together.
Thanks,
Conrad

I'm probably stating the obvious, but have you checked with a local manufactuer of storm windows?
You wouldn't think that channel would be that tough to come by.
Good Luck
One problem I can see with storm window manufacturers is that they usually make triple track windows that would use a different type of extrusion than I am looking for. I wonder how likely they are to sell to me too. After all, they want to sell a whole window unit. I'll look into it though, thanks.

If I understand correctly (and I rarely do), what you're looking for, it's just the 7/8" alum. frame that trims the glass, contains the latches, and the pivot bosses.
I'm sure they order that stock in 20'+ lengths and cut per job. I'd be surprised if someone wouldn't sell you the 80 to 100 feet you need.
Let me know how you make out.
I've seen that at sears hardware and ace
I'll check with Ace Hardware, never really thought they would carry such an item. Thanks.

I was looking for them for the same reason you are... to retrofit my old wood storms with a removable screen/storm panel. Never got around to doing it...yet. BTW, there are several sources for this type of product, but very expensive.
To clarify, the product I was referring to is wooden storms with a removable storm/screnn panel, usually just the bottom one.
That's exactly what I am trying to do.

Have you tried http://www.crlaurence.com ?
Yes, I've been to their site. I could find u-channel aluminum and vinyl gasket there, but they don't seem to have the "whole package". I still need some way to tie the corners together. The way I've seen it done, they use right angle corner keys that slip into the extrusion. Not only do I not see such keys on their web site, I don't see how you can use them with a simple "u" extrusion. The sample extrusion I got from the local glass shop is 5/8" deep with a small lip 3/8" down on either side to stop the glass from bottoming out. The remaining 1/4" to the bottom of the "u" is the space the key would fit into.
