Does anyone have experience/feedback on a concrete stain called Soycrete? A client would like me to use this on a new basement slab.
Acid stains are a known entity but they are not happy about the VOC’s. Problem is, they had me take a look at this Soycrete on DIY’er job for reference and it had worn off in about 30% of the room! The concrete was rough troweled so that helps explain part of the uneven wear. This new slab is hand-troweled hard and flat. Not like a power trowel sheen but very smooth.
Is Soycrete a viable option?

Acid stains don't generally have a high VOC. it should be printed on the side of the container, any thing under 50 is pretty.
It's the sealers that go on after that are high VOC.
We've used water born sealers "Buckeye" brand that we get from our local commercial floor care place "Saffelles" it's basically an emulsified wax that you can dilute with water. We've stained a couple with a powdered iron soil amendment from a farm supply down in texas, sort of slow, a multi layered process, but good indoor air quality.

Thanks ShelterNerd.
No doubt, the VOC's in the sealer is the biggest problem. The SoyCrete mfg is called ecoProCote and they offer sealers too.
Have you had good durability with those water born sealers? This is in an enterntainment room so traffic will not be very heavy.
The buckeye is pretty durable and very re-coatable but oil stains like penut butter will stay around for a while and, strangely enough, blue painters tape left on the floor for a few weeks near a cabinet that was being painted that we just forgot to pull the tape when it was done left a dull area that just will not go away. Faint, but still noticable if you know it's there. I think you can get a sense of it with this project which we finished with alternating coats of un-evenly applied Kemiko acid stain, cola and coffee or something and finished with the Buckeye. http://www.chandlerdesignbuild.com/indexFull.php?id=goldmine&t=The%20Goldmine%20House------------------
