space allowance for ceramic floor around cabinets
I am building kitchen cabinets and after I install them, I’ll add a ceramic floor. I don’t yet know what ceramic tiles I’ll be using but I still would like to gauge how much space to allow when sizing the bases under the cabinets. Currently, I’m planning a 3 1/2″ x 3 1/2″ kick space under the cabinets. Assuming a 1/4 or 1/2 hardiboard followed by mortar and tile, should I add an extra 1″ to the height of the bases? Is 1″ adequate? For floor tiles, does it matter whether one uses 1/4″ or 1/2″ thick backer under the tile?
