Space requirements around AC condenser
We’re thinking of trying to “box-in” our AC condenser, but I was wondering how much air flow is required around it? The primary reason is not aesthetics, but to create a bit of a garden tool storage area and space is at a premium in our small yard.

They really need plenty of room to "breath". I would say at least 4' if using a solid fence. But you should call a HVAC contractor and ask them.

Get the information on manufacturer and model, and, often, clearance information can be looked up (and often online).

Now, the other issue about clearances is that they are often inviolable, if 60" is needed, then, that's 60" to the next nearest thing, rakes, pottery shelves, whatever. Note, too, that the vertical clearances are sometimes infinite.
If 60" sounds extreme, please remember I'm in a majority-cooling location. We run a/c equipment from May to October in many cases. It can take a lot of air exchange to cool a compressor when it is 93º at 49% RH (the 1400 conditions locally). DP has come down to a moderate 67º after raining (10 minutes) some of the water vapor out of the air.
Thanks for the input. If it's 4 - 5', I probably have no chance.
