I swear by my miter trimmer like a Lion brand but made by AMT.
It's guillotine type deal. I put it on a carpeted 2x10 and can slide it right round the room I am in..on the floor.
I've recently added a hand miter trimmer to my aresenal as well, but before that, I wood have a small folding saw to "lop'' the shoe to rought lengths..the trimmer SHAVES it is not for crosscutting, the hand trimmers WILL cleanly cut in the middle of a stick.
I got them from Lee Valley, the Miter Trimmer can be had from Lion try Amazon.com. You'll never go back to your way.

The fences adjust to any angle left and right and there is also a "top trimmer" angle block ( not shown) for cuts like crown and so on.

Neat item. We use a simple 15lb Delta miter for simple 45's. Easy to cart around. We send the Bosche only when things get serious. I like that tool though. No dust. Where do you store it? In your pond? :-) DanT
Yeah, I know..the rust. A dog I had pizzed on it, and I had to hose it off..LOL
I made a plywood box for transport, that suckker is SHARP and dangerous to air hoses and fingers, the girl that owned that dog almost lost 3 fingers to the blade when she had it topple off a chair she had it setting on.
I cleaned it up after that picture, really I did..steelwool and wax.
Yes, quiet, cordless, no fine dust ( just chips) and glass smoothe endgrain..no tearout or anything..and you can split a hair that had been split already.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks

Saw this for $75 on craigslist. Is it worth buying?

Hard to tell if the blades are re-sharpenable any more, and it looks like the pins for the fences are missing ( they pre set at 45)
I'd not jump at it. I think mine was 120 or so , brandy new , picked up at the showroom in Royersford Pa.Spheramid Enterprises Architectural Woodworks
