So I decide it is time to replace the old framing gun with a Hitachi NR83A2. Everything I can glean on this suggests that there are two versions, each with a particular advantage, but it is not possible to get one with both good features from the factory. Confusing labels made this harder to unravel.
The NR83A2 is similar to the old Hitachi framer, but with an adjustable depth of drive nosepiece. The NR83A2-S is the same tool body, but with a two-position trigger, and WITHOUT the adjustable depth of drive. Both these features matter for the remodel work I do.
The tool guy at the lumberyard will call Hitachi tomorrow to straighten this out, then call me. If I have to, I will buy the dual trigger gun and order the nosepiece and retrofit it. Anybody here know anything about this? I’m in SoCal, so only the full round head guns are an option. TIA.

If you want both the selection switch for the bump and single fire and a depth of drive, I think the hitachi's have a gun with both but if not, check out the makita. They have the switch and depth on both the stick and coil framing nailer, real nice guns too.
Why not consider a MAX instead. BTW coil or stick?

Bill,
I have a Hitachi NR83A2 - bought about 6 weeks ago to replace / upgrade NR83A. Paid about $329 at a local dealer, set up with quick disconnect and ready to work. It has BOTH depth of drive adjustment and a two position trigger ( bump fire or sequential single fire, both adjustments are "tool-less").
I saw that NR83S-A2 or whatever at a big box and it did not have any drive adjustment.

Thanks to all who replied. I spoke to tool guy at the lumberyard this morning after he called Hitachi, and he will have me a gun Monday with both features for $339. Amazon sells the two versions I mentioned in my first post, and do not offer the "complete" gun.I have not held a Max. It looks cool in pictures. The Hitachi is good in my hands. My 1st generation Porter Cable and my previous Paslode both rubbed me raw on the second joint of my thumb, which sticks out kind of farther than normal. I need a better gun next week for my current job, and the Hitachi is available, and a known quantity.Again, thank you. -Bill
