Anyone with suggestions:
I have a house that was built 15 years ago and was constructed very energy efficient. Ever couple of years the screw holes show through the paint on the exterior walls. I believe this could be a moisture problem due to moisture being trapped in the walls. The exterior of the house was Tyveked and taped properly. I also believe the insulation was paper backed, but no plastic was added. I also told that no primer coat was applied, but it has been painted several times since. I would just like to know of anyone had suggestions to fix this, or if this is the problem at all.
Please offer suggestion.

Check out the'mildew on exterior walls' discussion further down the list. I think a similar thing is going on, just diferent symptoms.

Fred,
I agree with your take. Now, can anyone explain why this seems to be a recent phenomenon? Is the relative energy efficiency of the wall's remainder the reason for the screw heads being so much cooler than their surrounds? Also the higher humidity levels in newer or more well insulated houses?
By the way, I would think that simple dust and dirt could condense on the screw heads as well as combustion soot. I'm sure old JF has an "alterniative anser."
*Rob,
Its hard to give an answer without knowing that information. If you try to it would be just a guess in my opinion. View Image © 1999-2000"The first step towards vice is to shroud innocent actions in mystery, and whoever likes to conceal something sooner or later has reason to conceal it." Aristotle

Thanks for all of your suggestions. Let me give a little moree information about the house. The house is framed in traditional wood and is located in Southeast Iowa. Also the basement is used as a dancer studio 9 months out of the year and is used almost everyday from about 2 in the afternoon until 10 at night. The room gets very hot and most of the time is also is very humid. Do you think that has anything to do with it? There is a woodburningng stove in the main level that is used the entire winter. Most of the time the heat is turned low and all of the heat iproducedd by the stove. Do you guys think that has something to do with why this problem is showing up more often then normal, and the reason for all of the soot?
Thanks again for yourhelp..... Robob
