Can anyone tell me the best method for painting Hardiplank siding? Do you spray and backroll like drywall? And if so, what length of roller nap would you recommend?
Thanks!!!
PS: And what is it about paint that draws bugs to it like a porch light?!? I must have had 20 or so commit suicide in my roller pan today!

My home with new Hardie Shingle siding was painted by professional painters. They sprayed and did not backroll, and it came out really nice. Three coats: first was 100% acrylic primer, then caulking as needed with siliconized acrylic latex caulk, followed by two 100% acrylic finish coats.
If it is not preprimed, then just as the previous post, prime, caulk, paint. You will get a smoother finish if you do not backbrush/roll. Its kind of a preference thing. I've actually heard people that think they like the look of the brush marks. I dont. If its preprimed, then just caulk and paint. Though I will say I'd vastly prefer a urethane over latex anymore. With Hardie, it's what they recommend, it's what OSI makes for Hardie, it's what Sherwin makes for Hardie . . .
And if you want a warranty, SW will warranty the paint job if you use preprimed Hardie, urethane sealants, and Duration paint. Save the receipt.

Thanks everyone! I'm all to happy to skip the backrolling!!
