I keep hearing how fantastic spray foam insulation is, even with the higher initial cost.
has anyone had do reno or addition work involving homes that have been insulated with spray foam.
I’m thinking it would be quite messy to rip studs and stuff encased with that stuff.
not that, that would be a reason not to use it …. but just something to think about.

electricians don't like their wires buried in it
wanna talk messy? Try doing demo with cellulose insulation in the walls! I'll take foam any day.

Question, why don't electricians like spray foam? Someone said in a previous post that their electrician did not want the HO to spray around the elec boxes because it would make it difficult to deplace the wires. I have never seen an electrician replace wires in a finished home since the advent of foam insulation, and further I thought that if plastic boxes were used the wire had to be "secured" within a foot of the box. Now if it is "secured" how are they going to pull the wire.
Sure makes using adjustable boxes hard to adjust, especially after the drywall is up.
I'm talking remodel situations. If you open up a wall say to place a window or a door, the wires in place would need to be moved. The other thing - sometimes a fulled loaded work box/junction box can get warm. With foam around it, it will get warmer.I have also seen overspray get in the boxes or even push the box aside or forward as it expands. I tell sparky to be sure his box is secured and I tape over it before foamy arrives.Have you noticed - sparky doesn't like his boxes filled with drywall mud either?

Yeah, they are getting better at bad!I had one a few years ago that completly disappeared. They had run the tape through it and finished a skim coat so it was GONELuckily, I always take photos of walls before they get covered.
Further over on the same wall was a box that had not gotten cut out too - no wonder there was a slight bulge in the wall there! Backcharged him on that payment.;)

that must be getting to be commonplace! Every job I'm on anymore I here the electricians yelling about not being able to find a box, been covered over!
