You regulars might recall my rantings on this forum earlier this year. I’m the one who hired a painter with all his spray rigs, by the hour, to paint trim in a new spec house.
He took forever, worked inefficiently, went through way too much paint, but delivered me a first class job.
Well, a contractor friend of mine, with whom I have a really handy tool-sharing program, bought a really nice HVLP spray rig for doing trim. I researched it, recommended it, he bought it. An Accuspray 19c gun with a super 2-1/2g pressure pot. We run it with an old standup tank Craftsman compressor with a 25g tank.
Using factory-primed f-j pine trim, each of two 3 BR, 2 BA condo units were trimmed out, then cleaned out, vacuumed down, bagged up, dropclothed, masked, tacked, spotprimed with spraycan Binz where needed, and we were ready. My friend donned his newly purchased zoot suit, bagged his head, put on the organic filter mask, and went in, once we had loaded paint and tuned the setup.
Straight over the factory primer went one light tack coat of Sherwin Williams ProClassic semigloss acrylic (white), on everything, then a nice finish was laid down. Everything is done in unit A today. One day for the cleanup, one for the bag and tape job, and one day to finish. Everything from skirts and risers, to jambs, sash, casings, the coffered ceiling, interior doors, you name it, looks smooth as a baby’s butt. Three gallons did it.
We’ll probably do better in unit B.
The 19c rig is mine the next time I need a paint job on trim, and I won’t be hiring that painter again.

a really handy tool-sharing program, Can I get in on that deal? I need to do some painting next week, can you drop it off over the weekend?
What did you pay for the setup?
Whenever you are asked if you can do a job, tell'em "Certainly, I can!" Then get busy and find out how to do it. T. Roosevelt

Dylan, great post. Used to be a painter; got way too confused tryin to cipher paint pots from pots of paint from pot. Your sprayer and methodology sound, sound. Ain't it great when you hit on something like that - a technique that feels, looks and is efficient as hell?!
Back in the day -- we painted high-end houses for rich folks who needed a paint job like another med. But we did it. Slapped on the Pratt while maneuvering around priceless furniture and prized possessions. The movin was slow but the pay was good.
question: looking to spray my deck soon as it stops rainin here. Deck has been prepped. Lookin at an airless to rent to run alkyd penetrating stain through. Been a long time..........any caveats?

Get your product from a Sherwin Williams store and ask the store manager to rent you the right rig for the application.
