I sprayed doors, window, and trim with Zinser primer then 2-3 coats of Ace Royal with a little flotrol, lightly sanding between coats, outside, in heat and humidity.
I had to thin with 5 oz of water for 2 qts paint, 2 oz flotrol. The Graco 4900 4 stage HVLP with #6 nozzel wouldn’t spray full strength. We didn’t brush it out.
The paint didn’t seem durable enough. After installation we brushed on a coat of unthinned latex.
Any hints how to do this better? (We had great success spraying the water base polyurethane.)

I have a very nice HVLP setup that sits in my shop because they are not the best choice for spraying latex or oil paints. Like you, I needed to thin the paint alot before it worked well. Most paint manufacturers discourage any thinning of the product.
Airless sprayers work best on heavy body paint like latex and oils. Polyurethanes and laquers are great with HVLP-but not paint.

I have a pressure assisted 4 stage by Accuspray and they say that thinning about 20%. I spray have sprayed trim pre-installed and all I use is 12" masking paper. It takes 2 coats minimum but the second coat doesn't take that much more time. i haven't seen a problem with the final finish.
I'll let you know how the next job goes in the next 2 weeks. 14 doors and 1400 linft of base and case to install and finish
Wow, 20% thinning in half a gallon of paint would be 12.8 oz water, right? Do you add flotrol too? Let me know how that goes, thanks.
