When asked “What is the square foot rate for building or for framing a new home, what is generally included in the amount of square feet used to figure this rate? Are garages, carports, basements, porches, etc. generally counted? Also, what is standard practice for figuring square footage for a home- are stairwells counted on both floors? Are the outside perimeter measurements of a home simply multiplied to get the square footage? I understand what heated square footage is, but what I want to know is how to count square footage for the purpose of getting estimates from subs and for quoting rates to customers.
