Well, a combination of laziness and other things have prompted the wife to start suggesting we get someone else to finish the basement for us. This evolved into investigating HELOCs to cover the cost. I’m guessing the following trades would be involved:
- Rough Carpenter or framer
- Electrician
- Plumber
- Mechanical (HVAC)
- Drywaller (and mudder)
- Finish carpenter
- Concrete Stainer
I’m guessing the stages are close to their respective activities, but acknowledge a tradesmen might need to come back out for a second visit. While most of the poured concrete walls and flexduct are already framed up, I might have the rough carpenter reinvent the wheel.
Ah, and the fine process of getting quotes from licenced, insured, and experienced tradesmen with references. Maybe 3-5 per trade?

Why not just hire one contractor and they'll handle the subs?
Considering the time you'll spend ferreting out all the bids and trades, you'll not come out a lot more expensive trying to GC the whole job.

True, and it is an option. Unfortunately, I do not know anyone that does this for a living in my area, and the focus must include adaption for the home theater being installed (I'm handle that equipment/setup).
I just can't wait for this movie to start! He's too high, he's stupid, he thinks I'm an idiot yada yada yada. Should be a great read. DanT
Dan, I am not sure what you are getting at. This will not be my first home theater. I already have a 92" screen-based mini home theater upstairs.
I think he means the whole remodeling project.
I'm not as funny as I think I am
Yep! That's what I meant. DanT
Previous contractor work I've had done elsewhere in the house went fine and nothing amiss to make me out as a psycho. But, for Dan'd benefit I could cause soem h3ll. :)
It seems like he could use the entertainment.
:-)

You probably don't need to interview 3-5 tradesmen. Just start interviewing them. You'll know when you find the right guy. It might take one interview and it might take fifty.
