My client ikes stainless appliances in the kitchen. Now she is thinking she wants stainless cabinets too. Maybe not the entire cabinet, but the door and drawer fronts, and probably the face frame.
Is this practical? Would we need to go with commercial grade kitchen equipment?

in loking at options on re doing our kitchen, found some info about SS.
three are laminates now that are SS.
and there are a lot of SS appliances now that are not commercial grade, nor residentioal biggies (Viking, Wolf)
why face framed? wouldn't it be easier not faced framed for SS cabinets?

We had a laminate (metalex (?)) that simulated stainless steel look pretty well. Very hard on router bits though. Came in assorted patterns like diamond plate etc, as well as tinted colors.
you can buy used stailess restarant equipment here. clean it up , looks like new, half price.

I just got done finishing up a kitchen with some SS in it. The woman of the house is very particular and will not except a scratch on the SS. I did everything in my power to get out of that house and not put a scratch of the smallest proportion on any of it!
The Viking people were not as lucky. They just this week installed the 4th vent hood. And they kicked her back half of the cost of it. They just wanted to get the hell away from that house.
Make sure they understand what can happen to SS. For your own good.
I'm starting a new kitchen that will have two small cabinets with arched doors out of SS. I'm going to just build the box and take it to a custom sheet metal shop and have them do the lining and make the pieces for the door. I don't want to try to fab any of the SS.
I think that you could incorporate some good ideas using SS. I don't know that I'd want a whole kitchen out of it but heck, who am I......
This is all stuff that you can do if you chose but I think its going to get pricey and time consuming.

Neither of those factors are relevant for this job. Last job I did for them, she picked $95/yd carpet (plus installation), and the light fixture over the kitchen table cost $900 and looks like a tumbleweed.
The SS laminate sounds interesting, but that means square edges on the doors. Don't know yet if that will be a problem.
I said face frames out of habit. Maybe the doors would cover all the face of the cabinets, but then when the door was opened you'd see the wood. I dunno, maybe paint it black for contrast like the trim on the fridge. So far we're just in the talking stage ... still ... dang i wish she would make some decisions.

Fast Eddie,
I am a carpenter at a medical facility. We are just finished a dialysis work room in all stainless steel casework. Have you considered using lab cabinets? Pretty pricey, but if money is no object.....take a look at this link.

Had a 2 hr meeting last night. They want to know how brief the permit drawings can be ... idea is to submit for a permit as soon as possible, and be able to make decisions later ... more likely: be able to make changes. Still have not decided if/where there will be wood floors, carpet, tile, stained concrete,... Ceiling lighting is even farther on the horizon. Second bath might have one lavatory, or two ... when do we have to decide? Built-in bookshelves ... can we decide where they go after you start building the walls?

Check out this place, they do custom ss. I like the ss doors on home page, very sophisticated.

That's gonna look just like a chem lab at a school or a hospital lab. Nice if you're into that kind of thing.
Don't think I've ever seen cabinets in a commercial kitchen. They are inefficient. You either use Metro wire shelving or similar can/box racks, pot/pan hanging racks, and stainless steel tables and counters. Once in a while you get drawers for utensils but those are usually part of a stand-alone piece of equipment.
I have seen metal cabinets in quite a few kitchens - I think FHB had an article about a kitchen in one of the K&B issues that was all green metal lab cabinets with frosted glass doors, and fireslate counters. It was really nice looking, even though teh owner appeared to be trying for the "industrial" look. Also had a glass block floor, which was highly unusual.
One thing that might not look so awful is maybe a maple or birch cabinet with a silver or copper/silver glaze on it - just enough to color match the appliances but not so much that it doesn't look like wood cabinets. Some frosted glass or pebbled glass doors, maybe some accent bands or crown in a contrasting species such as purpleheart or wenge.
