One more thing:
Has anyone had any experience with stainless steel standing seam roofing? I’m looking for any cautionary tales, warnings, etc. before I make the plunge. I can get 26 ga. stainless steel roofing custom run by a local metal roofing outfit for about $3/sf. I’m familiar with Follansbee terne-coated, etc. but working on a lower cost alternative.

$3/SF
sounds very low. I probably pay about that much for the various 24-ga painted galv steel pans that I use.
Are you OK with a REALLY shiny roof?
Yeah, I agree that sounds way too cheap. Any more info?
Like others say, sounds too cheap. Is someone trying to pass off galvanized for SS?
I'll echo the sounds too cheap chorus. That's Kynar pricing around here.
Some stainless steel can be quite brittle.
It will be bright at first , but it will get dull with time. It can also get quite streaky over time as well.
woodhak, after you do a post, don't use "Back". Instead, roll up to the upper left and press "Recent posts". Then you won't/can't double post like that.
My question would be why? After a while, it'll look funky won't it? Stainless steel is a bit of a misnomer. It's not like it will stay shiny or anything. After a while it'll look just like an unwashed stainless steel sink ... which IMO doesn't look good ... I don't like them for that reason.
Don't do it because it will reflect heat, either. After the shiny dissappears, it won't reflect nearly as well. But also, the emissivity is probably similar to a pocket knife blade ... very low (that's why a very shiny knife blade is very hot in the sunshine).
