I am working on a set of open tread stairs and am looking for some advice from some of the fine designers/archs here. I did mockups of the general design before starting with all the stock preparation. Now I am looking over the details before I start cutting in the details, and am questioning some of the ideas. I have attached a 3D view from the landing and an elevation of the upper railing. You will see a lattice near the top of the rail, and the box newels have some grooves that form a similar pattern. I am trying to decide if I should add inlays to the treads and if so, should the pattern be similar to the box newels. All of the wood is Cherry except for the treads and they are Jatoba (1 3/4″x11″) to match the flooring. The inlays are to be Tigerwood. I dont mind the extra work, but I want it to be worthwhile in the end. Looking for suggestions.

Stan could you help this person out???
I think risers would look "more correct" with the newel/baluster/lattice/rail design.

thks for the vote. I am going to try one with a similar pattern inlaid into the treads. I have pretty much ruled out more complex inlays.

From a code consideration the space between the treads & risers cannot exceed 4" and the rail must withstand 200#'s of lateral force. I personaly like inlay on stairs, but the drawing looks to be a little heavy in line width.
Nice color combination. Is this something you're doing for The Simpsons ??
hmm, you never know what guys will notice. I have not rendered the drawing since I did the mockups. Wayy too many hours on the model as it stands.
