We are building a new home. Our intention has been to use stair lighting on each of the three sides within our stairwell (not on the risers themselves). However, when the builder pulled out the stair lighting today, it looked like a/c vent/grates. We do not like the look at all.
We’ve been on home tours where there are very narrow, thin type, and longer stair lights. Is anyone familar with this style? Or does anyone have other suggestions? I’m having no luck when I google “stair lighting.” I could be using the wrong terminology for the search.
Any help is appreciated.

I saw an episode of This Old House where the electrian installed a light box in a remote location, a closet, and ran fiberoptic cable with tiny emitters that were installed in different points along the stairway. It seemed to work really well in a place where there is never any room for recessed lighting.
