Dear homebuilders,
I’m looking for names of stair parts companies. My local lumber yard carries Coffman, which is too colonial/traditional for our house style, our house style more consistent with Shaker/Craftsman/Bungalow. Any suggestions will be welcome.
Thanks,
Debbie

I have done a lot of searching around, but have found all the stair parts places carrying the same lines of "colonial" stuff.
The essence of the craftsman style is "hand made."
Have you looked through the ads in magazines such as American Bungalow?

I find that most of the stair parts manuf., carry pretty much the same or similar styles. For the Craftsman style, you would most likely want box newells, as opposed to a reg. style newell. Perferably with Oak skirts, treads and risers. My supplier deals with Leepers, and they carry these, but coffman also does, you really need to get ahold of their catalogs as box newells is not generally a dealer stocked item. You could go to http://www.leepers.com ( they don't sell direct ) and access local dealers. If your not in the trade you might be better off buying from a local stair co., as although I also get parts from lumber and building supply houses , at times they 1/2 the time don't know jack about supplying all your layout needs.

I know the web site says they make spirals. I used to install for them and they can and will make anything you want. They make all kinds of stairs and parts, even the more complicated stuuf for a few other shops.
Ask for Rich Joyce Sr.
If you want catalogs the best bet is to look for L.J. Smith on line.
I agree with Roger that Coffman does sell parts to build craftsman style railings - which I have used. Although, as you say, 85% of what they sell is more colonial/etc. If they don't have what you want though I can't argue with that... LJ Smith is another big stair parts supplier, although personally I try to use readily available stuff as special order/mail order hurts budgets and kills the flexibility of returns, etc.
This maybe a bit too modern
