We are completing our new haus and need some pointers for installing
the center post for the stair railing. The carpet guy is coming Tues,
so i must have the post installed at the top of the stairs.
The stair stringers are 3 x 11 1/2 GluLam, with the treads mounted via
3″ right angle brackets to the stringer. The stringers and treads are exposed on the sides and below. The one stringer is next to a wall.
I need 1 post at the top and bottom, neither of which is a problem.
But the span is 14′-6″ which is too long without a center post.
We don’t want to mount the post on the outside or the inside of the
stringer, nor do we want a plate on the outside/inside of the
stringer. we want to mount it on the top of the stringer. But if i
had a bracket made, the angle on the upper side would be too sharp for
me to get the lag bolts in and tight.
Any suggestions on how to get the post mounted?
thanks,
ron
