Anyone ever use a product called Soy Gel, I’m thinking of trying it to remove paint from a staircase in my home. The house is over 100 years old, however there are not alot of layers of paint covering them. I’m trying to come up with a way to make the least dust possible, the area is difficult to seal off and I’m concerned about lead paint. Any suggestions? Thanks for your help…Dave

We've used SoyGel, but not on steps. It works pretty well as long as there are not too many coats of paint. Also good scrapers, like the Pro-Prep ones. Pull scrapers seem to have less risk of damaging the wood than push scrapers. However the drawback is that you need to wash off the residue using a fair amount of water, so be sure to tape off areas you want to protect with plastic. We settled on using a bristle brush and a large sponge, with two buckets of water.
