Just a few simple questions regarding an upcoming project (13 stair treads, with a landing).
1) How thick should the treads be? I’ll have to adjust at the landing, because I am using 3/4″ prefinished ash on the landing (treads will be ash, too).
2) Best way to secure the treads (I figured I’d just drill 1/4″ holes part way, then screw the tread down and plug the hole. Better ideas?)
3) And problems with prefinishing the treads?
4) I will paint the risers white. Best material to use for these?
I think thats all for now. Thanks!

1. 1" to 1-1/8" thick, actual measurement. (That would be 5/4" material) You should have a landing tread (stair nosing) at the edge of the landing.
2. Construction adhesive and finish nails will work fine. Don't skimp on the adhesive.
3. It may keep the adhesive from sticking.
4. Maple.
