Purchased a 2x3x8 at big box store today. Sign said “WW kiln dried”. Does WW stand for white wood?
Stamp on lumber read,
“S-P-F” If the wood is spruce, why is it stamped S-P-F and not just Spruce?
“KD-HT” What does HT stand for?
“240 NLGA” What does this mean?
“Select” What does this mean?
Thanks for your help. Rick

rick,
I think WW stands for Western Wood Products Assc.
SPF is a group with similar characteristics so they are grouped.
HT stands for heat treated.
NLGA stands for National Lumber Graders
Select is the grade, either 1 or 2.
We have made up our own grades for the junk we sometimes get ie Bark or Better , Bark All Four Sides. :)

Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.
How bout BMDFLD?
Bark missing due to forklift damage.
White wood is from the celery family, squishy soft stuff.

Joe,We have that grade also, but we like it. You can read the crows foot easier than on bark.KK
Good questions
SPF is a hybrid of spruce pine and fir.
I would guess that ww is white wood.
Select is a higher grade of lumber. Check the lumber industry for specs on grading and what they mean. I don't know them by heart.
No guess on the 240 nlga
National Lumber Grading Association? I guess I do have a guess!
Bob's next test date: 12/10/07
I did a little research. "NLGA" stands for National Lumber Grades Authority, (a Canadian organization).
"WW" - Spruce is sometimes refered to as whitewood.
Don't know what the "240" means.
NLGA is National Lumber Grades Authority. Your lumber is from Canada and they used the NLGA guidelines to grade it.
SPF is not a hybrid. It means it is either Spruce, Pine or Fir.
I'm pretty sure 240 is the mill number.
