I've watched plenty of it done here. Or let's say I've paid for plenty of it.
The guys used a different mix than for a regular pour. It had 3/8 stone rather than 3/4 and they didn't use fiber be/c it'd mess up the surface. They were also particular about when to trowel in the color and when to stamp. Plus they spent lots of time the next day on cleaning the "grout lines" and they use a different sealer than for regular flatwork.
*My father -in-law had it done by the "professional" who was hired by the guy who built his house last year. they are tearing it out this year because the mix was wrong and the top surface is flaking. I would not attempt this if you have not had experience doing it with a crew that has done it many times. if you are getting it done, i would drive around knocking on doors that have it aaand ask lots of questions first.
*Don, No first-hand experience on my part, but here are a couple of links that I've gotten info from...either from reading what they have on-line, of emailing them.http://www.thestampstore.comhttp://www.concretenetwork.comGood luck!
*Are you having this done or doing it yourself?I saw one example in Mesa, AZ recently that made my jaw drop. It had almost no accent color and a terrible stamping, but what it did have was obvious footprints all over. This stuff can be great when done right, but when it's bad, it can be really bad.
*Unless you are in Mesa or somewhere similar where you can avoid leaves or needles filling the stampings, invest in a pressure washer right away to keep it clean.
*Only caution with a pressure washer is that a powerful one can strip the sealer right off the concrete. Use a nozzle that spreads the water a little.
*Thanks for the feedback .I plan on doing it myself ,I have done a lot of flat work ,..so.... I went and invested in a set of stamps. I have read about and watched it done but ithere are always some little tricks that you miss . What kind of sealer ,brand name,do you use on stamped ? Gosh Mongo I am surprised that you haven't done any stamping yet ..Thanks for the links I was into them before I bought my stamps . I got the stamps from Symons of Des Plains Ill. Don
*My sub uses a different sealer for stamped than for flat. I'm supposed to see him in the next day or three. I'll try to remember to ask.
